Stachybotrys
A type of mold that is commonly called “black mold” due to its black, slimy appearance. It produces a mildewy or musty odor and can be found in wet, damp areas. It is a dangerous type of mold because it produces toxic compounds called mycotoxins. They can cause, flu-like symptoms, headaches, memory loss, diarrhea, and respiratory damage.

Alternaria
A type of mold that is dark- grey, brown or black in color. Alternaria is commonly found outdoors but can grow indoors in damp places like under sinks, showers or where leaky pipes are present. It is an allergy-causing mold that can be spread easily from one room to another. Exposure to this type of mold can cold an allergic reaction and an asthma attack.

Cladosporium
Cladosporium is a type of mold that is usually olive green, black or brown, and often grows on carpet, fabrics and wood surfaces like cabinets or floorboards. Unlike most mold types that prefer warm climates, Cladosporium can grow in cooler areas as well. This type of mold causes a variety of respiratory problems.

Fusarium
Fusarium can also grow and spread at lower temperatures throughout the home, like Cladosporium. It can be pale and bright in color. This type of mold is commonly found in plant debris, carpet with water damage, fabrics, and drywall. Serious infections can occur for people with compromised immune systems.

Chaetomium
Chaetomium mold produces musty odors and is similar in appearance to black mold. It can be found in homes with damp environments and water damage. Exposure can cause watery red eyes, trouble breathing, and severe neurological damage.
